Jaafar was just 22 years old when he wrote the first song on the album after having a near-death experience involving a car accident. Before then he was playing trumpet and background singing for local bands in the Birmingham, AL area. Afterwards he decided to express his emotions and experiences by going solo. Surprising the industry with a mature voice compared to Maxwell, Jamie Foxx, Bilal, and John Legend, Jaafar quickly became Birmingham’s premier soul artist after his album dropped in February of 2009.
